Hill, who received a B.S. (1983); Master of Education (1986) and mid-management certification (1993) from Sul Ross, has coached in the Texas high school ranks for more than 30 years, and at Smithson Valley since 1993, also serving as athletic director. His overall career record is 249-75. Hill led SVHS to the Class 6A Division I state quarterfinals in 2015.
A former president of the Texas High School Coaches Association, Hill also served on the THSCA board of directors for four years. More than 25 of his former players are currently competing at the collegiate level. Prior to coming to Smithson Valley, he coached at Texas City, Jourdanton and Clark High School in San Antonio.
Hill, a graduate of San Antonio East Central, was a four-year starter at quarterback for the Lobos as a collegian. As a senior, he led Sul Ross to an unbeaten regular season and the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association title. The Lobos advanced to the NAIA playoffs, where they lost a memorable triple-overtime contest to William Jewell (Mo.) College.
